HISTORIC PROPERTIES OPEN DOORS
TO PUBLIC
FRANKLIN, TENN
..Homes dating back to the early 1800s will open their doors for tours
on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3 for the 32nd annual Town & Country Tour of
Homes.
Our annual tour of homes offers the public a rare opportunity to tour these grand
historic homes, both in town and out in the county. This year we have four downtown
Franklin homes plus a church and four homes in outlying areas. Each home is currently a
full time residence and each has been lovingly restored, said Mary Pearce, Heritage
Foundation Executibve Director.
The annual tour serves as a fundraiser for the Heritage Foundation, a non profit
organization since 1967 with a mission to protect and preserve the architectural,
geographical and cultural heritage of Franklin and Williamson County and to promote the
ongoing revitalization of downtown Franklin in the context of historic preservation.
Historic homes are open for tours from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. until 5
p.m. on Sunday. Tour tickets are $20 in advance or $25 the weekend of the event. Homes may
be toured in any order and tickets may be purchased at any tour location on the days of
the tour.
Some are larger than others; some are in town, some are surrounded by farm land and
subdivisions. But each is not only home to its family, but a piece of history offering a
story all its own. The tour offers a treat to everyone from that young couple saving money
to buy their first home to those in brand new subdivision homes. Not everyone wants to
live in a piece of history, but most of us are certainly curious to see it, said
Pearce.
Advance Town & Country Tour tickets will be available beginning May 15 at Shirley
Zeitlin offices, the Heritage Foundation or by calling 615.591.8500, Extension 18.
The Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County is a membership-based,
non-profit organization that seeks to protect and preserve the architectural, geographic
and cultural heritage of Franklin and Williamson County and to promote the ongoing
economic revitalization of downtown Franklin in the context of historic preservation.
Proceeds from the Tour benefit community educational programs such as the Heritage
Classroom that serves approximately 10,000 school children throughout Williamson County.
